Louth sees slight fall in number of people reporting as homeless in August
Louth and the North East region, saw another slight fall in the number of people accessing emergency accommodation in August, following a similar fall in July, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
187 adults accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 25-31 August 2025 in the North East region, down from 195 in July, and 220 in June. Of the 187 adults in August, 163 were in Louth, and 24 were in Monaghan and Cavan combined.
Of the 187 adults, 118 were male and 69 female. 34 were aged 18-24 years old; 100 were aged 25-44; 45 were aged 45-64; and eight people were aged 65 and over. 114 were Irish citizens; 30 were EEA/UK citizens; and 43 were non-EEA citizens.
30 families with 65 children also accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation in the North East region, during the week of 25-31 August 2025. This is down from July, when 39 families, with 82 children accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation.
Nationally, 11,208 adults and 5,145 children, giving a total of 16,353 people were recorded as homeless in August. It is up from 16,058 in July, and yet another record high number of homeless people in the State.
This figure that does not account for those rough sleeping, refugees, asylum seekers, individuals in domestic violence shelters, or those in hidden homelessness—people sleeping in cars, on couches, or in unsuitable living conditions.
