Louth sees rise in drunk driving incidents

Louth sees rise in drunk driving incidents

There was a 23.6% rise in the number of incidents of driving/in charge of a vehicle while over legal alcohol limit offences recorded in the Louth Garda Division, in the 12 months to the end of June 2025 compared to the previous 12 months, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

According to the CSO release, CSO Recorded Crime Q2 2025, 178 incidents of driving/in charge of a vehicle while over legal alcohol limit offences were recorded in the Louth Garda Division in the 12 months to the end of the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, compared to the 12 months to the end of Q2 2024, when 144 incidents were recorded.

52 incidents were recorded in Q2 of this year, and 50 incidents were recorded in the first quarter (Q1). This compares to 38 incidents in Q2 2024, and 38 in Q1 2024.

There was also a fall in the number of incidents of driving/in charge of a vehicle under the influence of drugs offences in the Louth Garda Division, with no incidents recorded at all in the first six months of this year, compared to 14 in the first six months of 2024.

12 incidents of driving/in charge of a vehicle under the influence of drugs offences were recorded in the 12 months to the end of Q2 2025 in Louth, with the incidents all taking place in the final six months of 2024. This compared to 31 incidents recorded in the previous 12 months.
