Louth sees fall in numbers reporting as homeless

Louth, and the North East region, have seen a fall in the number of people accessing emergency accommodation, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

195 adults accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation in the North East region, during the week of 21-27 July 2025. The figure is down from June when 220 people were recorded, and May when 217 were reported. Of the 195 adults, 173 were in Louth and 22 were in Monaghan and Cavan.

Of the 195 adults, 119 were male and 76 were female. 31 were aged 18-24 years old; 108 were aged 25-44; 48 were aged 25-64; and eight people were aged over 65 years of age. 116 were Irish citizens; 32 were EEA/UK citizens; and 47 were non-EEA citizens.

39 families, with 82 children also accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 21-27 July 2025. It is down from 48 families with 101 children in June, and also down from 51 families with 107 children in May.

Nationally, 11,044 adults and 5,014 children, giving a total of 16,058 people, were recorded as homeless in July. It is up from 15,915 people in June, yet another record high number of homeless people in the State.
