Leaving Cert students offered second chance at maths exam through Dundalk IT

Leaving Certificate students who narrowly missed the required maths grade for certain Level 8 Computing and Engineering programmes at Dundalk Institute of Technology, now have another opportunity to achieve the required results. 

An Additional Maths Entry Exam will take place on Friday 29 August 2025 on the DkIT campus, giving students a second chance at their maths exams.

This exam applies to the following courses:

• BEng (Hons) in Engineering (Common Entry)
• BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering
• BEng (Hons) in Electrical and Electronic Systems
• BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering
• BSc (Hons) in Computing in Games Development

The exam is open to candidates who achieved at least a H7 or O4 in their Leaving Certificate maths but did not meet the extra maths criteria for these programmes. It is best suited to students who have met the basic maths entry requirement for a level 8 programme at DkIT but have failed to meet the additional maths entry requirements for the above programmes. 

A Short Preparation Course will run on 26–27 August and is included in the €30 exam fee. Results will be released within days and considered for second and third-round CAO offers.

Robyn Woods from Dundalk who is currently a student on the BEng (Hons) in Civil Engineering joined her course in DkIT through Available Places when she realised her original choice of psychology in another college was not the right fit.
