Cllr Dolores Minogue
Mid-Louth's Cllr Dolores Minogue has said that the reopening of Woodbrook Station highlights the need to prioritise the reopening of the station in Dunleer, and has asked why there has been "no serious movement on the long-overdue reopening of Dunleer Railway Station".
Iarnród Éireann opens the country’s newest train station, Woodbrook DART Station, on Sunday 10 August. Woodbrook Station, which is located between Bray and Shankill, will serve the existing and new communities of Woodbrook and Shanganagh. It will be the 147th Station on the company’s network.
Commenting on the new train station, Cllr Minogue said: "I welcome the reopening of Woodbrook Station on August 10th, which will serve the growing communities of Woodbrook and Shanganagh. It’s encouraging to see continued investment in rail infrastructure, with Woodbrook becoming the 147th station on the network — funded by the Department of Transport via the National Transport Authority.
"However, this raises a clear and pressing question for our own community in Dunleer: Why is there still no serious movement on the long-overdue reopening of Dunleer Railway Station?

"Dunleer is a large and growing town with a strong commuter population. Trains pass through the town every day without stopping, despite increasing demand for public transport options and our community’s continued calls for progress. As a councillor for the area, I am formally calling for:
Cllr Minogue added: "The reopening of Dunleer Station is not just a transport issue — it’s a matter of fairness, sustainability, and supporting balanced regional development. Our community deserves the same opportunities being afforded elsewhere.
"Let this be the moment we stop getting passed over and start getting answers."
