Cllr McGeough raised the matter at the Louth County Council July meeting at the County Hall in Dundalk
Louth County Council has been asked for an update on the remit of the Disability Officer in the county, in an aim to help improve the lives of those with a disability in Louth.
Cllr Pearse McGeough raised the matter at the Louth County Council July meeting, and in comments to the Dundalk Democrat following the meeting, said that, "people with disabilities feel left behind. Local authorities including Louth meet their requirements regarding the law around services and infrastructure but is it enough to just do the bare minimum? What I would like to do is find out what engagement there is across the services with disability groups, advocates or constituents."
The Sinn Féin councillor continued, "I deal with the Disabled Grants section on behalf of constituents and have found the application form and process can be very bureaucratic but the staff in that section are always very helpful and willing to assist so I just want to ensure there is consistency across the services for disabled or vulnerable people.
“Let’s make this county better for everyone and no-one knows better than they what is needed.” Cllr McGeough also asked the local authority for a possible presentation by the Disability Officer, at an upcoming meeting, to understand more about their role.
