Friday 4 July saw the launch of an ambitious digitisation project dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich heritage of the iconic Macardles Brewery by the Macardles Historical Society, at An Táin Arts Centre, Dundalk.
The Macardles Digitisation Project brings to life over 160 years of brewing history in Dundalk, featuring hundreds of carefully restored photographs, documents, artefacts, labels and more. These rare materials have been meticulously archived and digitised, ensuring that this vital part of Dundalk’s industrial and cultural legacy is accessible for generations to come.
Driven by Jason McGee and Kelley O’Hanlon, the project has been a labour of love with support from Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT), The Macardles Community and Dundalk Credit Union.
The Macardles Digital Showcase event featured a presentation of the archive, visual displays and stories from former employees and local historians, and was an evening of nostalgia, community pride and shared heritage.
