Louth County Council update on Dundalk Bay to Carlingford Greenway

Louth County Council has issued an update on the proposed Dundalk Bay to Carlingford Greenway project, explaining that it has engaged Irish Traffic Surveys to undertake a series of traffic and parking surveys on the Cooley Peninsula over the coming weeks, as well as outlining the envisaged time line for the next public consultation.

Dundalk-Carlingford Sinn Féin representative, Cllr Antóin Watters, shared details of the update from Louth County Council on social media today, where he revealed that the traffic and parking surveys would be beginning on 11 July and and be active for approximately 4 weeks.   

The data collected from these surveys will assist the design team in assessing existing parking usage, its effect on the road network, and identify existing issues. This information will inform decisions on where new parking facilities or trailheads may be needed for the greenway project.

The surveys will be undertaken using a number of methods, from manual counts, automatic traffic counters and remote cameras. Louth County Council advised that it should be noted that the remote cameras will capture the road area and the images captured by the cameras do not allow reading of number plates or identification of people’s faces to ensure no personal information is collected.

In relation to Public Consultation No. 3, the envisaged timeline is below. Louth County Council has advised that the exact dates are yet to be determined, and are subject to TII approval following the Peer Review, however the following timelines would be broadly expected as detailed below. It should be noted also that these are not fixed and may be subject to change.

• Peer Review – end of August / Early September
• Responses / Addressing issues raised at Peer Review – Early/Mid September
• Letters issued to affected Landowners – mid/late September
• Presentation to Elected Members – late September
• Public Consultation Event – late September / early October
• Design Team meetings with affected landowners – Commence at time of PC3
• Independent Agronomist meetings with affected landowners – Commence at time of PC3
