Louth TD welcomes progress on Right to be Forgotten Bill for cancer survivors

Fianna Fáil TD for Louth, Erin McGreehan, has hailed that the Right to be Forgotten Bill is to be brought forward for legislation before summer recess.

Deputy McGreehan has said this is a vital step to protecting cancer survivors when accessing financial products, and specifically mortgage protection.

She said: “I’m thrilled today to hear that the Right to be Forgotten Bill will be brought forward as legislation before the Dáil rises for recess. This Bill is vital to protect cancer survivors from being taken advantage of when accessing financial products and give them reassurance in particular to mortgage protection.

“I am delighted to see the rapid pace this is being delivered, and this will mean an awful lot to cancer survivors, their partners, and families,” she said.

McGreehan’s party colleagues, Minister of State Robert Troy and Deputy Catherine Ardagh have worked hard on this Bill, something McGreehan commends.

“I have to thank my party colleagues, Minister Robert Troy and Deputy Catherine Ardagh for all their hard work to get this Bill to this stage.

She added: “It is fantastic news to see a key commitment in the Programme for Government being delivered, and this will give cancer survivors comfort and security seeking a mortgage.

“There is work to still be done to develop the Bill further, and I look forward to working alongside my government colleagues to help deliver this,” McGreehan concluded.
