Gardaí in Louth stepped up enforcement efforts last weekend as Roads Policing Units (RPUs) from both Dundalk and Drogheda carried out high-visibility patrols targeting dangerous and unlawful driving on the county's roads.
A significant number of detections were made for speeding, mobile phone use while driving, and vehicle compliance issues.
In one incident on the M1, a vehicle was clocked travelling at 152km/h well over the motorway speed limit. Gardaí say checks revealed the vehicle had not been taxed since September 2024. The car was seized on the spot and fixed penalty notices were issued to the driver.
Another vehicle was intercepted at a mandatory intoxicant checkpoint set up by Dundalk RPU. Upon inspection, Gardaí discovered the car had not been taxed since 2023 and also lacked a valid NCT certificate. It too was seized and the driver penalised.

In a third incident, a motorist was caught using their mobile phone while driving passing by a fully marked Garda patrol vehicle without noticing it due to their level of distraction. A fixed penalty notice was issued to the driver.
