DundalkRailwayHeritageSociety will host an exhibition in Credit Union Office (formerly Houstons) 4/5 Clanbrassil Street Dundalk from 11.00am to 5.00pm over two days on Saturday 12th July and Sunday 13th July.
A model of GNR(I)RailwayWorks, Ardee Road, Dundalk set in the 1950s was built by the ModelRailwaySociety of Ireland members over nine years.
"The Works" shows the various buildings of theRailwayWorks, a model of The Boyne Bridge, theRailwayViaduct at Drogheda, and has working models of steam engines and diesels on the layout. This layout has been to Dundalk once before in 2014, so this is a rare opportunity for Dundalk people,Railwayenthusiasts, and modellers to see the layout.
Nearly every household in Dundalk had a father, grandfather or relation who worked at theRailwayWorks. It is part of the towns industrialheritagewhich is fast disappearing.
TheRailwayHeritageSociety are delighted to welcome the ModelRailwaySociety to show their model which has been refurbished recently and are grateful to Dundalk Credit Union for allowing us to use their new offices.
