Louth sees fall in number presenting as homeless
Louth and the North East region has seen a fall, for a fourth consecutive month, in the number of people recorded as homeless, according to the latest figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
205 adults accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation in the North East region, which comprises Louth, Monaghan and Cavan, during the week of 21-27 April 2025. It is down from 222 in March, 239 in February and 263 in January. 187 were in Louth, down from 204 in March. 18 were recorded in total in Monaghan and Cavan, the same number recorded in March.
Of the 205 adults in the North East region, 117 were male and 88 female. 37 were aged 18-24 years old; 110 aged 25-44; 51 aged 45-64; and seven aged 65 and over. 118 were Irish citizens; 33 were EEA/UK citizens; and 54 were non-EEA cotizens.
49 families with 92 children also accessed local authority managed emergency accommodation during the week of 21-27 April 2025 in the North East region. This is down from 55 families with 98 children in March.
Nationally however, 10,805 adults and 4,775 children, giving a total of 15,580 people, were recorded as homeless in April, up from 15,418 in March and yet another record high number of homeless people in the State.
This figure that does not account for those rough sleeping, refugees, asylum seekers, individuals in domestic violence shelters, or those in hidden homelessness—people sleeping in cars, on couches, or in unsuitable living conditions.
