Lace up your running shoes! St Brides GAA and Knockbridge Hurling Club in association with North East Runners will host their inaugural 5K road race this Friday 30 May at 7:30PM, and entrants from Louth and further afield are invited to take part.
The race is open to walkers and runners of all abilities from those wishing to race hard chasing a PB or for those who want to take part and enjoy a fun friendly event. The race begins at Páirc an Chuinnigh, Knockbridge with proceeds going towards the maintenance of the grounds and facilities.
The event will be a professionally timed 5K run/walk with prizes for top finishers. There will be a guided warm up in the pitch prior to race. The race loop will take participants south past the grounds turning left onto Rathiddy road. It will then proceed through Rathiddy road and turn left onto the main Dundalk road.
The race then heads into Knockbridge village with the final turn taking people back towards Páirc an Chuinnigh where the race will finish. Post-race refreshments will be available for all participants and volunteers.
Speaking ahead of the event, Knockbridge Hurling Club Chairman Ronan Byrne said, “The 5K is a simple idea that’s brought out a huge response. Following on from the success of our LipSync event at Christmas, it is great to see so many people getting behind something local, practical, and positive.”
Shane Darcy chairperson of the Ladies Football Club added, “This event is about more than just the run — it’s another chance for the whole community to get together, have a bit of fun, and support something that benefits everyone.”
Race Day Information:
Free parking is available at St. Mary’s Church and Knockbridge School car park. There is no parking at Páirc an Chuinnigh, so local residents are encouraged to walk to the event if possible.
No lockers or bag storage will be provided.
Warm-up begins at 7:00 PM at the pitch.
Walk to the start line at 7:25 PM.
The race begins at 7:30 PM sharp.
Refreshments will be served to participants after the race.
