Work began on just 39 homes in the first four months of this year in Louth
The steep decline in new home commencements in Louth this year continued in April, with work beginning on just 11 new homes, according to figures released by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage today.
The Departments April Commencements 2025 data shows that work began on 39 new homes in Louth in the first four months of this year. It compares to 1,361 in the first four months of last year in Louth, which included 1,000 being commenced in April 2024.
Of the 11 new homes on which work started in Louth in April, seven were one off houses, and four were scheme houses. Work has not yet commenced on any apartments in Louth so far this year.
Nationally, 1,027 homes commenced in April 2025, down from 18,700 in April 2024. So far this year, work commenced on 3,945 new homes, down from 30,689 on the same period last year.

42,316 homes commenced on a rolling 12-month basis (May 2024 to April 2025). Of the 3,945 homes commenced so far this year, 25% were in the four Dublin local authorities. By Local authority, the most units commenced this year so far have been in Cork City (186), followed by Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown (134) and Donegal (72).
