Litter Wardens in Louth completed 181 investigations in response to dumping reported by members of the public in April, data published by the local authority for April has revealed.
Figures from Louth County Council's Monthly Management Report show that 35 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued in April where evidence was found under the Litter Pollution Act 1997. Louth County Council Litter Wardens also carried out a foot patrol in Dundalk in April to raise awareness of dog litter.
In relation to waste enforcement, 17 complaints were received and investigated by the Waste Enforcement team in April 2025, some of which remain open pending further investigations. A total of 91 complaints were received by the Waste Enforcement team so far this year.
Louth County Council has also said that there were three intermediate bulk containers (IBCs) of diesel laundering waste dumped in the county in April 2025 with the approximate clean up cost of this being €3,750. The total cost for clean-up of diesel laundering waste so far in 2025 is approximately €27,500.
Looking at water quality and complaints in relation to it, seven water pollution complaints were received by the local authority in April 2025. Investigations and site visits were carried out in all cases, according to Louth County Council, and all complaints were investigated with two complaints remaining open.
Two agricultural complaints were also received by the local authority in relation to spreading and odours, with all complaints being investigated and closed out in April, it added.
