Court convictions for littering offences in Louth in March

Louth County Council has said that its litter wardens had successful court convictions in March in relation to litter enforcement in the county.

In details released by the local authority this week, Louth County Council said that in one case, there were three separate offences, and the judge convicted and fined the defendant the sum of €2,000 for each offence.

In another case, the judge convicted and fined the defendant the sum of €150. She also directed the defendant to discharge county council expenses of €450 and legal costs of €500.

The local authority also shared details on litter enforcement and investigations throughout the county in March, revealing that litter wardens completed 122 investigations in response to dumping reported by members of the public. 23 Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) were issued in March where evidence was found under the Litter Pollution Act 1997.

Louth County Council revealed also that waste enforcement officers received several complaints in March in relation to presentation of waste issues from commercial premises particularly in Drogheda, and that the Waste Enforcement department has worked with the Litter team and Operations in Louth County Council to try and address these issues.

The Council added that a total of 21 complaints were received and investigated by the Waste Enforcement team in March 2025, some of which remain open pending further investigations.

With regards diesel laundering waste, seven Integrated Bulk Containers (IBCs) dumped in March 2025 with the approximate clean up cost of this being €8,750. The total cost to Louth County Council for clean-up of diesel laundering waste so far in 2025 is approximately €21,250.
