Gardaí confirm security alert in Dundalk was a hoax

The Market Square in Dundalk this morning

Gardaí have confirmed that a security alert in Dundalk this morning, which led to the area around the Market Square and the Courthouse being cordoned off for a time.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána told the Dundalk Democrat that, "Gardaí were made aware of a security alert at a building at Crowe Street, Dundalk, Co Louth earlier this morning, Tuesday, 8th April 2025.

"Following further enquiries, An Garda Síochána is satisfied that the alert has been deemed to be a hoax and the area was declared safe."

The Dundalk Democrat understands that the courthouse was evacuated for a time this morning.

An Garda Síochána says that investigations are ongoing.
