Roads outside Louth town like 'an obstacle course'

Cllr Pearse McGeough has described the roads as an ‘obstacle course’.

Cllr Pearse McGeough has asked that Louth County Council assess the roads around Coole and Townspark Road just outside Ardee, and consider introducing weight restrictions on roads which he says are not fit for purpose.

The matter was raised by Cllr McGeough at the Louth County Council March meeting. The Sinn Féin councillor said that, “the roads in that area were built on bog land and were constructed for house and carts. Today we see heavy vehicles including trucks travelling along them and they aren’t fit for purpose between the subsidence and the potholes.

Cllr McGeough has previously described the roads as an ‘obstacle course’, and has asked the local authority for them to be assessed.

The Ardee councillor told the Dundalk Democrat: “I have asked the Council to assess the roads in the area with a view to introducing weight restrictions. The Council agreed to see if this or indeed any other option could assist but admitted there may not be a solution.”
