Dundalk sees jump in burglary and related offences

There was a sizeable increase last year in the number of burglary and related offences recorded at Dundalk Garda Station, as well as at other Garda Stations in Louth last year, according to figures released today by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

123 incidents of burglary and related offences were recorded in Dundalk in 2024, up from 102 in 2023, representing a rise of 20.6%. Blackrock Garda Station saw an even bigger increase, with 16 incidents recorded in 2024, compared to 9 in 2023, representing a rise of 77.8%.

Dunleer Garda Station also saw a huge rise in the number of burglary and related offences recorded at the town's Garda Station last year, with 22 incidents recorded in 2024, compared to 13 in 2023, representing a rise of 69.2%.

Drogheda saw a rise of 41.1% in the number of incidents recorded, with 134 in 2024 compared to 95 in 2023. From 28 January 2024 however, policing services were transferred from the Laytown sub-district in the Meath Division to the Drogheda sub-district in the Louth Division, which may account for some of this rise. 

There was a fall however in the number of burglary and related offences recorded at Ardee Garda Station last year. 29 incidents were recorded in Ardee last year, compared to 43 in 2023, representing a fall of 32.6%. There was also a fall in Carlingford, with five incidents recorded in 2024, compared to nine in 2023.

Nationally, there was a 2% increase last year in the number of burglary & related offences recorded in the State compared to 2023.
