The matter was discussed at the Louth County Council March meeting in the County Hall
A pilot scheme involving solar lights on the Carlingford Greenway could be rolled out across Louth if it is proved successful.
The matter was discussed at the Louth County Council March meeting and following the meeting, Sinn Féin's Cllr Antóin Watters told the Dundalk Democrat that the scheme has been in operation since last September.
Cllr Watters said that "it began last September and the findings will be collated for this September but I’m hoping it will see a reduction in lighting costs which would enable extra funding for additional lighting where needed.
The Dundalk-Carlingford councillor added, "it also has environmental benefits as the batteries are charged by the sun and the lights only turn on during programmed times or when there is movement.”
