Over 1,500 children across Louth, including Kilsaran NS and Tullyallen NS, are getting involved in the ‘Let’s Grow’ programme by SuperValu and social enterprise GIY which is rolling out in schools in the coming week.

SuperValu ‘Let’s Grow’ boxes will bring hands-on food education to schools across the county to help spark a love for growing and healthy eating among young children.

The grow boxes will include seeds, compostable pots, and expert guides to help them grow their own food and equipping them with the skills to cultivate fresh produce in the classroom.

Schools will also have the chance to win prizes, including a €1,000 growing voucher.

Kilsaran NS and Tullyallen NS are just some of the schools participating in this exciting project locally, which will engage 170,000 children nationwide in food-growing activities by the end of 2025.

Ali Honour, Campus Director & Head of Food, GIY, said: "This initiative is a powerful opportunity to equip children with essential life skills - growing their own food and developing a deep appreciation for fresh, seasonal, and nutritious ingredients. At a time when the climate crisis and cost of living challenges are converging, ensuring that future generations have the knowledge and confidence to feed themselves is more critical than ever.”
