Louth native Alison Comyn has been nominated to Seanad Éireann by Taoiseach Micheál Martin. Ms Comyn failed to win a seat in last year’s General Election when she finished 6th in Louth’s five seat constituency.

Born and raised in Drogheda and a mother of two, Ms Comyn previously worked as an IFTA-winning journalist, news anchor and broadcaster. Throughout her three-decade career, Alison has worked for the Drogheda Independent, Mid Louth Independent, Argus, BBC, Sky News, Channel 4, RTÉ and UTV Ireland.

She was also a communications consultant with international expertise, training groups and individuals from a range of organisations. She has chaired the World Employment Conference, National Recruitment Federation conference and Davy Stockbrokers Conference.

Her parents Pat and Phyllis Comyn were respected members of the local community; her paternal grandparents were piano teacher Daisy and gold Scott Medal winner Det Garda Mick Comyn; her maternal parents undertaker Frank F. Watson and his wife Margaret, whose own father had been Harbour Master.

Alison is dedicated to helping the region thrive, promoting its potential, and working tirelessly to ensure it remains a great place to live for generations to come.”

Last week Taoiseach Micheál Martin has announced his eleven nominees to Seanad Éireann.
