Louth Fine Gael TD, Paula Butterly, has welcomed the introduction of new grant aid for nutrient storage investments, announced last week by the Department of Agriculture.

The Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and the Marine, Martin Heydon, has announced the opening of Tranche 6 of theTargeted Agricultural Modernisation Scheme (TAMS 3), which includes a newly introduced 60% grant aid for nutrient storage investments.

The enhanced 60% grant aid applies to key nutrient storage investments, including manure pits, mass concrete tanks, circular slurry stores, and geo membrane-lined stores. The scheme, which continues to support farm modernisation and environmental sustainability, will be open for applications until 7 March 2025.

Welcoming the announcement, Louth TD Paula Butterly highlighted the benefits of this enhanced grant for local farmers. Deputy Butterly stated: “This is a fantastic opportunity for farmers in Louth and across Ireland to invest in much-needed nutrient storage solutions.

“The increased 60% grant aid will help farmers to expand their storage capacity, ensuring better environmental management while also preparing for unpredictable weather conditions which we have seen over the last few week.

Deputy Butterly echoed Minister Heydon’s statement of the importance of this scheme, stating: “TAMS has been, and continues to be, a hugely successful and beneficial scheme to the farming community and the wider rural economy.

“It has delivered key modernisation, environmental and safety improvements on thousands of farms across the country. “I believe these additional enhancements will attract further interest in the scheme and deliver additional benefits, especially in terms of overall water quality.”

In addition to nutrient storage support, the Minister confirmed the closing dates for all 2025 tranches, allowing farmers and advisors to plan their investments effectively. The upcoming tranche closing dates are:

  • Tranche 6: 7 March 2025
  • Tranche 7: 6 June 2025
  • Tranche 8: 5 September 2025
  • Tranche 9: 5 December 2025

The TAMS 3 scheme is co-funded by the National Exchequer and the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) under Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027.

For further details on the full range of investments covered under TAMS 3, farmers are encouraged to visit the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine’s website or contact TAMS 3 Admin at 053 916 3425.
