St Brigid's Shrine in Faughart was badly hit by storm damage, with trees uprooted due to the devastating winds from Storm Éowyn last Friday.

Dundalk-Carlingford's Councillor John Reilly, who is from the area, shared photos at the weekend on social media, of uprooted trees at St Brigid's Shrine, which showed trees fallen by the Stations of the Cross, as well as in front of the grotto to Our Lady of Lourdes.

It is hoped the area will be cleared ahead of Faughart Community Group's candlelit procession from St Brigid’s Shrine to Faughart graveyard, this Sunday 2 February.

Brigid’s Holy Well and birthplace is on the site of Faughart graveyard and Faughart Community Group says the idea of the procession is “to go back to where her light began to shine first before it radiated throughout the world”.
