392 new homes completed in Louth in final quarter of last year
Louth saw both a quarterly rise and an annual rise in the number of new homes completed in the county, according to the latest figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
392 new homes were completed in the Louth County Council local authority area in the final quarter (Q4) of 2024, up from 362 in the third quarter (Q3).
On an annual basis, 1,174 new homes were complete in Louth in 2024, up from 1,085 in 2023. Of the 1,174 homes completed last year, 797 were scheme houses, 127 were single houses (one-off houses), and 250 were apartments. This compares to 673 scheme houses, 130 single houses, and 282 apartments in 2023.
The CSO also provides the figures on a Local Electoral Area (LEA) level. The data shows that the Drogheda Rural LEA saw the highest number of homes completed, both in Q4 of last year and in the whole of 2024, with 151 completed in Q4 and 413 in the whole of 2024.
This compares to 62 in Q4 and 243 in 2024 in Dundalk South; 81 in Q4 and 158 in 2024 in Dundalk-Carlingford; 39 in Q4 and 233 in 2024 in Drogheda Urban; and 59 in Q4 and 127 on 2024 in Ardee.
Nationally, there were 30,330 new dwelling completions in the whole of 2024, a decrease of 6.7% from 2023. There was a fall of 17.4% in seasonally adjusted new dwelling completions from Q3 2024 to Q4 2024.
There were 16,200 scheme dwelling completions in 2024, a rise of 4.6% from 2023. There were 5,367 single dwellings completed in 2024, which was a fall of 2.2% from 2023. The number of apartments completed in 2024 was 8,763, down 24.1% from 2023.
In 2024, 53.4% of completions were scheme dwellings, 28.9% were apartments, and 17.7% were single dwellings. More than half (54.3%) of completions for the full year of 2024 were in Dublin or the Mid-East (Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow).
