Work began on 291 new homes in Louth in December
Latest figures from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage, show a significant increase in the number of new homes in Louth on which work commenced in December, compared to both the previous month and the previous year.
Work began on 291 new homes in Louth in December 2024, up from 142 in November, and also up from 36 in December 2023. In total last year, work began on 2,775 new homes in the county, significantly more than double the 1,118 commenced in 2023.
Of the 291 new homes in Louth in December, 18 were one off houses, up from six in November and also up from seven in December 2023. This is the highest number of new one off homes commenced in Louth since April 2024, when work began on 20 one off houses. In total, work began on 115 new one off homes in Louth last year, up from 80 in 2023.
Nationally, 4,397 homes commenced in December 2024, with a total of 60,243 homes commenced in 2024. The total number of homes commenced in 2024 is up 84% from 32,801 in 2023.
Of all the homes commenced in 2024, 34% were in the four Dublin local authorities (20,712 homes). By Local Authority, the most homes commenced in 2024 were in Dublin City (7,116) followed by Fingal (5,770) and South Dublin County (4728). The highest outside of Dublin was in Cork city (4,384). The lowest number of homes commenced were in Leitrim (101), Carlow (213) and Longford (248).
