The Protect Cooley Peninsula community group are holding a public meeting this Tuesday 3 December at 7pm at St Patrick's GFC in Lordship in north Louth, to inform the public on what has been happening in relation to the group's efforts to stop the Dundalk-Carlingford Greenway going ahead.

The group are holding a draw on the night also, in an effort to raise funds in case they are needed, the group says, to protect their properties should Compulsory Purchase Orders (CPOs) come into effect. At the meeting, councillors and TDs are expected to attend.

While the group is against the greenway going ahead, through their lands, it said on social media on Monday that it is not an anti-greenway protest group. The group said, “Contrary to what some have painted this campaign to be; we are not an anti-greenway protest group. We are opposed to CPOing our neighbours, friends and family members’ gardens and farms for this non essential amenity.”

On a leaflet promoting the public meeting, the group said that the proposed greenway routes will “severly impact hundreds of families in the Cooley Peninsula.”

It added that family homes would be devalued as a result, and that farming land will be reduced. It also highlighted that young people in Cooley are being refused planning permission to build homes on their family land. The group is urging the local public to attend the meeting this Wednesday
