Louth Senator calls for traffic calming measures on road to new Smyths Toy warehouse

Senator Erin McGreehan

Louth Senator Erin McGreehan has said that Louth County Council must introduce traffic calming measures on the R177 due to heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) travelling to the new 410,000 sq. ft. Smyths Toys warehouse in the Dundalk North Business Park.

Senator McGreehan said: "The enormous new Smyths Toys warehouse has led to many HGVs travelling on the Armagh Road, the R177, to and from the warehouse, dramatically increasing traffic congestion.

"There are plans in the Louth Development Plan to build a link road from the R177, to the R125 old Dublin Road which would help deal with the congestion.

"However, this will take some time to build and I have contacted the Council to see how I can best assist to speed up the completion of this link road.

"Residents have raised serious concerns withe me in relation to the increased HGV traffic on the R177.

"I am calling for Louth County Council to review the level of traffic on the road and introduce traffic calming measures to protect drivers from the increased HGV traffic."
