Double parking at the Bridge St junction was raised at the October meeting
Councillors at the Dundalk Municipal District October meeting called for action to be taken to prevent double parking at the Bridge Street/Castletown Road junction in Dundalk.
Cllr Maeve Yore raised the matter, saying that she was receiving calls from people in relation to the level of double parking taking place at the junction and asked for an increased traffic warden patrol at that part of Bridge Street.
Cllr Seán Kelly said he supported Cllr Yore's comments on the issue, adding that he thinks part of the issue relates to the take away at the same location, with the delivery drivers parking there, which he says is causing a problem when lorries are trying to turn at the junction. Cllr Kelly added that due to a number of “high profile” wakes at the funeral home recently, there is a higher level of traffic in the area.
Responding to the councillors, Senior Executive Officer, Olivia McCormack, said that she would raise the issue with her colleagues in the Operation section and the relevant authorities in relation to having a patrol in the area. She added that she would also raise it with the consultants and contractor, as they have a planned road closure at the location and they could keep the local authority informed as to what is happening at the junction.
Ms McCormack further added that they have relatively recently met with the funeral home and post office, and would have a discussion with them also in relation to it.
