Two schools from Louth make the finals at this year's Junk Kouture fashion show
Ireland’s leading sustainable fashion platform for Gen-Z, Junk Kouture, is back with the much-anticipated Dublin City Final, set to take place on October 01, 2024, at the Main Hall, RDS, Dublin.
After two successful Regional Finals in March, sixty design teams from across the country will return to Dublin this October to compete for one of ten coveted spots in the next Junk Kouture World Final.
Creative, innovative, and sustainability-focused students between the ages of 12-19, will take the stage to present their most thought-provoking designs, all crafted entirely from everyday junk.
These young Irish visionaries, aim to dazzle and impress the esteemed Junk Kouture judging panel as they showcase months of hard work while performing in their impressive wearable designs each one with an inspiring story behind it.
Two schools from Louth have made the finals with their beautifully created designs.
St. Vincent’s Secondary School present their festive frock 'Rockin' Around', from the creative minds of Ellimay Sharkey, Madeleine Cristal, Rebecca O’Hagan.
The team said of the design,
"This festive dress was inspired by all things magical. It was created using recycled Christmas trees and decorations. The aim with this dress was to show the beauty of Christmas, while also highlighting the huge waste that is generated during the holiday period."
While Dundalk Grammar School present their funky look 'Denim Dominance', with James Pilbeam, Gabrielle Furlong, Amelia Hannigan behind the creative look.
The team said,
"Denim Dominance is a critical response to the use of hostile architecture in Ireland. Made from recycled work trousers and jeans, the creators aim to raise awareness of the immoral treatment of the people most directly affected by the homelessness crisis - as metal spikes and sloped benches in consumerist areas strip people of their human rights and dignity."
Attendees can look forward to an exciting evening that begins with pre-show entertainment from Junk Kouture partners, featuring a live DJ set and followed by the main show of the best of young Irish creative talent.
Marking the 14th year of Junk Kouture in Ireland, this event promises to be yet another inspiring experience for fashion, creativity and sustainability enthusiasts alike.
Tickets for the 2024 Dublin City Final are on sale from tomorrow, Thursday, August 1, on the Junk Kouture website, with prices at €39.00 and €49.00. This family-friendly event welcomes attendees of all ages, though those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Junk Kouture is proud to welcome DHL Express Ireland as the Official Logistics Partner and EUROSPAR as the Official Market Partner, both back for a second year to support the finalists at the Dublin City Final.
