REVEALED: Plans for Dundalk's St. Nicholas Quarter Regeneration

Louth County Council have signed contracts with Glas Civil Engineering Ltd. for the  delivery of the St. Nicholas Quarter Regeneration Scheme.

The public realm scheme has received funding under the Urban Development Regeneration Scheme and it is a  continuation of the scheme on Clanbrassil Street.  

Louth County Council Chief Executive, Joan Martin said "the proposed works will regenerate and transform St. Nicholas Quarter, building upon its rich history as one of the oldest areas of Dundalk."

BDP Ltd are the Architectural Lead Design Consultants for this project. The works will  include the upgrading of watermain, drainage, telecoms, and power networks. New  street lighting and street furniture will be installed. Upgrades to pedestrian facilities will  include new stone paved footpaths and new pedestrian crossings.

Resurfacing of the existing roadways and new road markings will be completed. Landscaping features will include the installation of trees and shrubs.  

To minimise the impact on residents and businesses the works will be completed on  a phase-by phase basis.

Phase A will commence on lower Bridge Street, from St.  Nicholas Church to the Castletown Road. To complete these works, this section of  Bridge Street will be closed to traffic from mid-August for approximately four months.  Diversion routes will be in place via. Patrick Street, Philip Street, and the Castletown  Road.

On completion of Phase A of the project, Phase B of the works between the  Castletown Road and Northgate Street will commence. This section of Bridge Street  will also be closed to traffic for approximately three months. A diversion route will be  in place via. the Castletown Road, St. Nicholas Avenue and Maxwell’s Row for this  section of the works. Deliveries to and from businesses affected by the works will be  accommodated throughout these closures.

Phase C of the works will include upper  Bridge Street, from Northgate Street to Maxwell’s Row. Phase D will include works on  Northgate Street and Phases E and F will include Linenhall Street and Fairgreen Road.  Traffic flow will be maintained for these phases of the works. Pedestrian access will  be maintained at all times and deliveries to and from all businesses will be  accommodated to minimise the impact as much as possible.
