Paddy Malone
PRO Paddy Malone recently attended the Shared Island Forum, representing Dundalk Chamber. The Taoiseach reconfirmed a number of projects including Narrow Water Bridge, and the A5 road to Derry and Casement Park.
There were three sessions addressing Youth; Business and Community.
In all three cases the emphasis was on practical cooperation rather than any constitutional issues.
Mr Malone raised the question of people working in one jurisdiction but living in the other. He highlighted the complexities both for employees and employers in the area of taxation and social welfare
He also commented on the significant fall in students from Northern Ireland attending colleges in the Republic.
Chamber PRO attends forum At the time of the Good Friday Agreement 10% of university students in the Republic were from Northern Ireland, it is now less than 1%.
Other topics covered included the work of InterTrade in encouraging North South trade, Science Foundation Ireland, Creative Ireland and the work of the East Border Region.
