Talk about close finishes, as Inside Track does in another story on this page - it really couldn’t have been any tighter at the end of Group 2 in the Louth senior championship. It was a greyhound race, a photo would be needed to determine the result.
St Patrick’s, Dreadnots and St Mochta’s each finished on two points, and that being the case, score difference came into play. The sums showed that Dreadnots were plus one, Pat’s even, and Mochta’s minus one.

So, there’s a place in the quarter-finals for Dreadnots and Pat’s, but Mochta’s, strong fancies to go the whole way, are out.
The Villagers will have regrets. In Sunday night’s clash with Pat’s they were six points clear at one stage, Declan Byrne contributing most to their scoreline, but by conceding crucial scores to Martin McEneaney and Leonard Gray late in the game, they ended just one point to the good, short of what was required to keep them in the race.
Another surprise was the ease with which Newtown Blues got the better of St Joseph’s, the Drogheda side showing why they should never be discounted when it comes to the county’s premier competition.
Joe’s looked promising in their defeat by Naomh Mairtíns a fortnight earlier, but this time had no answer to what Blues had to offer.
Favourites, St Mary’s, were due to play Geraldines on Saturday, but the game was called off due to a death in the Gers’ club.
Last night’s game between Roche Emmets and Cooley Kickhams will decide the issue in Group 1. Dundalk Gaels have beaten Roche, but went down to Cooley.
Because of the Saturday’s postponement, the draw for the quarter-finals, due to have been held after last night’s game, has been put back.
