Irish jockey Michael O'Sullivan is in intensive care following a horror fall at Thurles on Thursday afternoon.
O'Sullivan, a two-time Cheltenham winner, had been riding 5-4 favourite Wee Charlie for Gerard O'Leary in the second race of the card when the horror incident happened at the final fence.
O'Sullivan was one of three fallers at the final fence of the two-mile handicap chase at Thurles.
He was treated at the Tipperary track before being airlifted to Cork University Hospital. The remainder of the meeting was abandoned.
Dr Jennifer Pugh, chief medical officer of the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board, said in an update on X: “Michael is in the intensive care unit at Cork University Hospital being treated for his injuries sustained at Thurles yesterday and is receiving the best medical care.
“Michael’s family wish to express their gratitude for all the well wishes.”
O'Sullivan shot to prominence in 2023 when he teamed up with trainer Barry Connell to claim the Supreme Novices' Hurdle with Marine Nationale, before completing a double on the day aboard Jazzy Matty.
