Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Conor Keelan
Cathaoirleach of Louth County Council, Cllr Conor Keelan has welcomed the news of the government 95% funding rate for Louth piers and harbours.
Last week, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue T.D., announced additional funding for Louth's piers and harbours bringing the total amount for the county under the Brexit Adjustment Local Authority Marine Infrastructure Scheme to €3,334,678.
The Minister also announced that he had increased the government funding rate for the scheme to 95% for all projects (up from projects less than €1m at 85% and projects over €1m at 90% in the April announcement).
Cllr Keelan believes that this new funding rate means a big saving for Louth County Council. The total amount of extra funding paid by government for Louth projects is now €2,625,003.
Commenting, Cllr Keelan said, "this new funding rating is very important news for our council. The council's budget is stretched in many directions but this increased funding rate by Minister McConalogue means that the council can continue these projects without the financial pressure that previously existed.
"I thank the Minister for making this decision which will greatly benefit our county and help the council continue to develop our piers and harbours."
