The venue was different but the air of anticipation was just the same as Tidy Towns volunteers from around the county gathered in the Fairways Hotel to hear the results of Louth Looking Good 2022.
With much to celebrate, following a great result in the National Tidy Towns Competition and recognition for many groups and volunteers in the recent Louth in Bloom Awards, invited guests arrived hoping to have received a similar positive outcome in this competition organised by Louth Tidy Towns Together with support from Louth County Council, a LEADER grant under the Rural Development programme and generous sponsorship from the corporate sector and a number of local Councillors.
The event was a celebration of another year of hard work, community spirit, volunteerism and an eight medal haul for the county in the National Tidy Towns Competition.
Speakers on the night included the Chief Executive of Louth County Council Joan Martin in her role as Chairperson of the LCDC the committee that approved grant assistance under the LEADER programme, Councillor Conor Keelan Chairman of Louth County Council, Frank O’Brien Chairman Louth Local Development and Councillor Maria Doyle who, this year, was joint sponsor of the main awards with Councillor Liam Reilly who wasn’t able to attend the event.
All speakers were fulsome in their praise for the voluntary effort that has had such a transformative impact on the environmental presentation of our towns and villages.
Blackrock held on to its crown for another year with the judges commenting that “Beautiful Blackrock did indeed present as a beautiful village as a result of the care and attention lavished on it over many years” but it is definitely getting closer at the top with Dromiskin being told that “overall success in Louth Looking Good hovers tantalisingly close“ and very close on their heels Monasterboice whose performance was described as “your work ethic has certainly put the zing into amazing and has delivered truly amazing results”.
Team Tallanstown is also back with a bang and likely to be also contesting the top spot in the not too distant future.
