Friday 25th November is the United Nations’ International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and marks the beginning of The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Global Campaign.
Individuals, civil society, grassroots organizations, UN agencies, and governments will join together to demand accountability for the protection of women and girls over the two-week period.
Tomorrow evening, Wednesday 7th December, as part of their participation in this global activity, Women’s Aid Dundalk are hosting an evening in An Táin Theatre to look at how we as a community can be part of the response and help to make our community a safer place for women and girls.
Catherine Ferrin of Silver Sisters Productions will be there and via interactive drama will help to demonstrate the reality of the experience of Domestic, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence with a view to motivating us to actively work towards making Dundalk a safer community for women and children.
Women's Aid Dundalk is fortunate to have Mary McDermott CEO of Safe Ireland and adjunct Professor, School of Applied Social Studies, University College, Cork, with us to share her thoughts on a Community Response to Domestic, Sexual & Gender-Based Violence.
Mary has worked across the University, NGO and Community Development sectors for the last 30 years; she is a feminist educator and activist with a particular interest in the intersection between personal change and social change.
The evening begins at 7:00pm will finish at 8:30pm when tea/coffee and refreshments will be served.
