€66K announced for LGBTI+ Community Services in Louth

€66,000 is to be made available for two LGBTI+ community service based projects in Louth. Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth, Roderic O’Gorman, made the announcement today, where €1,209,832.35 was announced for 27 LGBTI+ community service based projects nationwide.

The funding is to assist the development of rural community infrastructure to be inclusive and welcoming of LGBTI+ persons, address gaps in LGBTI+ services and support existing LGBTI+ community organisations.

In Louth, €60,000 is to go to locally based Outcomers, the social and befriending support group for LGBTI+ people. The project covers the Louth, Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Balbriggan areas.

€6,ooo has also been allocated to Drogheda LGBTQI Support Group for its 3 days a week club.

Welcoming the funding announcement, Louth TD Fergus O'Dowd said, “I’m delighted that local Louth organisations will benefit significantly from the €1.2m national fund, improving supports and services for the LGBTI+ community is essential as we try to build a more inclusive and safe environment for everyone.

“I wish Bernie and the extended team in Outcomers and Peter and the extended team in Drogheda the very best in delivering their respective projects.”

The 2022 LGBTI+ Community Services Funding Call is seen as an important element in achieving overall objective of the National LGBTI+ Inclusion Strategy, which was adopted by Government and launched in November 2019.
