Fianna Fáil Senator Erin McGreehan has welcomed the official opening of North Louth CAMHS in Earl House in Dundalk.

The specialist service for people under age 18 with mental health difficulties was opened by Senator McGreehans colleague Minister for Mental Health and Older People Mary Butler today, Tuesday November 29th.

North Louth Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) is a specialist service for people under the age of 18 with mental health difficulties.

The service offers assessment and treatment to young people and their families, who have been identified by their GP or another senior clinician, to be experiencing a mental health disorder that is having a moderate to severe impact on their quality of life and requires the input of a multi-disciplinary team.

Senator McGreehan said: "I'm delighted to see the official opening of North Louth CAMHs at Earl House in Dundalk.

"It's a pleasure to have my colleague Minister Butler here who I must thank for her work and support for CAMHs in Louth.

"It's important to highlight that children can now avail of therapies locally in Dundalk at Earl House were until recently, they had to travel to Drogheda in what can be very distressing situations for families and young people.

"Supporting the CAMHS teams locally is a priority for me. We need to ensure that greater resources and capacity are added to ensure that all who require services can avail of them.

"I look forward to working with Minister Butler further on this and thank her for her support.

"The CAMHs teams at Earl House provide a brilliant service. I want to thank the interdisciplinary team for the work they do and we owe them huge gratitude as they help young people through very distressing situations."
