Off the back of securing significant funding to make the reality of a new stadium in Louth come true, Louth GAA have launched their latest fundraiser, a 24 hour walk which is set to involve clubs from around the county.

The event takes place over the 9-10th of December, with many of the team captains attending the launch night at the Darver Centre of Excellence last Thursday, whose walking facilities will play host to the event.

The captains have been tasked with putting together a team of 15, who between them will continuously walk around the 1.6KM course for an entire day.

The captain is also in charge of finding a team sponsor, whose branding would be included at the start line and plugged across social media, while also getting his teammates to fill up a sponsorship card. Not to mention driving his fellow walkers on throughout this tough challenge.

All clubs that partake in the walk will go into a draw for some great prizes, the first being a year’s worth of free broadband. The runner up in the draw will get a coaching session from either football manager Mickey Harte or hurling manager Paul McCormack. Third is a new set of O’Neill’s jerseys.

Last month it was announced by county chairman Peter Fitzpatrick that Louth GAA had secured funding of €14.8 million for the project via the Immigrant Investor Programme.

They are also set to hold talks in the coming days with the GAA, in the hopes of securing some central funding for the proposed new stadium, which is set to be built on the Inner Relief Road in Dundalk.

Fitzpatrick is hopeful of having the stadium up and running and ready to host the 2024 county final.

Should the tendering process later year go to plan, work is set to begin on the site in early 2023.
