Dundalk election hopeful says 'Castletown Cross is an accident waiting to happen'

Local election candidate Sean Kelly has called for urgent action to avoid a potentail accident at Castletown Cross in Dundalk.

Seán Kelly, local election candidate in Dundalk-Carlingford electoral area, believes that Louth County Council needs to step in immediately and put in road safety measures at the junction between Castleblayney Road, Mount Avenue and the Mill Road.

"This junction is already extremely busy given its proximity to Junction 17 of the M1 and is only set to get busier with proposed developments on Mount Avenue", said Kelly

He continued:

"Add to this that there are nearly 1,500 second level students from De La Salle College and St Louis in this area during school term time and we have a serious safety issue on our hands. Louth County Council must act now with a programme of safety works to address this" he added.

The Fianna Fáil hopeful says he is raising this as he has met with residents in this area who are fearful of what might occur if this issue is not addressed properly soon.
