Calls for safety audit to be carried out at Carlingford Pier

A safety audit of Carlingford Pier was requested by Cllr Antóin Watters at the Louth County Council March meeting, following the tragic death of Ruth Maguire on St Patrick's Weekend.

Cllr Watters made the request at the meeting after speaking to members of the emergency services, who told him that lighting, cctv and very importantly, a new barrier needs to be erected along the pier.

In response to Cllr Watters’ request, the meeting heard that nothing could be done until more detail on what happened was made available.

When such details are made available the meeting heard, a safety audit would be considered.

Cllr Watters offered his sympathies to the families of those who died in Carlingford on St Patrick's Weekend and thanked the emergency services for the work they did, along with the public and his fellow councillors who offered their help and support following the tragedy.
