A man with 24 previous convictions, who refused to give his name and date of birth to gardai when he was caught driving uninsured while he was banned, was disqualified from driving for 10 years at Dundalk District Court last week.

Michael Ward (26) with an address at Woodland Park, Dundalk was stopped driving at Tom Bellew Avenue, Dundalk on July 11th last.

He was disqualified from driving in May.

The court was told last Wednesday that the defendant had one day left to perform of 240 hours community service, which he was sentenced to last July.

The Defence solicitor said her client was battling addiction issues at the time but has since completed a forklift driving course.

Judge John Coughlan imposed a 10 year driving ban and adjourned the case for an updated Probation report to the 15th of May.

He said he was considering making a further community service order in lieu of a five month jail term.
