John Spillane returns to Dundalk Gaol next week

There is just over a week to go until acclaimed singer/songwriter John Spillane takes to the stage of the Oriel Centre at Dundalk Gaol.

The two-time Meteor Award winner, performs next Saturday 22 September in Dundalk Gaol, with Forkhill singer/songwriter Briege Murphy playing support.

John Spillane is one of the most accomplished songwriters in Ireland today. Among those who have covered his songs are Christy Moore, Karan Casey, Pauline Scanlon, Cathy Ryan, Sharon Shannon and Sean Keane.

Briege Murphy is a songwriter of contemporary folk with a love of Irish traditional songs. Her performances tell the story and inspiration behind her own songs and with a good dose of humour thrown in.

Such is the calibre of her song writing that Briege Murphys songs have been recorded by numerous artists including Frances Black, Niamh Parsons, Aoife Scott and Don Stiffe, Anthony John Clarke and many more.

As well as recording 5 albums of her own work, she has also produced one of traditional music and American folk covers.

She has received a "Keeper of the Tradition" award for her contribution to the culture of her county and country from the late Tommy Makem and has won "Best Female Bard", at the Bard of Armagh, a humorous poetry competition.

There are still a few tickets at €20 available for what promises to be an intimate and enchanting night.
