Massive yearly increase in housing completions in Louth
CSO figures released today show that in Louth in the second quarter of this year, 140 new dwellings were completed in the county.
30 of these dwellings were single houses. This is an increase of nine on Q2 2017, or a 43% increase.
94 of the completed dwellings were part of a housing scheme. This is over double the amount of completions for the same period last year, when 41 were completed, representing a 129% increase.
16 new apartments were completed in Louth in the second quarter of this year. This compares with just one in the same period last year, or a 1500% increase on the previous year.
The increase in completions in Louth in Q2, far outstrip the increases in the State as a whole. The 122 single house completions in the State in Q2, represent a 12% increase on last year, much lower than the 43% increase witnessed in Louth.
This is also the case for scheme houses and apartments, where the increase of 54% in scheme houses and 6% in apartment completions in the State, are much lower than the 129% and 1500% increases in Louth for scheme houses and apartments.
The primary data source used for the New Dwellings Completions series is the ESB Networks new domestic connections dataset where the date that the connection is energised determines the date of completion.
According to the CSO, it is accepted that the ESB domestic connections dataset is overestimating new dwellings and the CSO has adjusted for this overcount by using additional information from ESB and other data sources.
