Challenge 21 in aid of Down Syndrome Centre North East coming soon

Challenge 21 in aid of Down Syndrome Centre North East takes place on 15 September

Challenge 21, a 21 km walk in aid of the Down Syndrome Centre North East, takes place on Saturday 15 September, across Sliabh Beagh, Co. Monaghan, and the organisers are looking for your support.

The Down Syndrome Centre North East (DSCNE) provides a family centred, multidisciplinary approach to the delivery of essential services, support & information to individuals with Down Syndrome and their families in Counties Monaghan, Cavan, Louth & Meath.

The proceeds from this event will be allocated towards the running costs of this new centre, located in Carrickmacross, which will be in excess of €150,000 per year. The centre is due to open at the end of September.

So what is the significance of 21? - Down Syndrome is also known as Trisomy 21 referring to a third copy of chromosome 21 which is unique to people with Down Syndrome.

The core ethos of the DSCNE embraces Positivity – to create a brighter future where children and adults with Down Syndrome are given support to reach their full potential and live independent and fulfilling lives.

More about the event and the route

Discover the unspoilt beauty of SliabhBeagh’s blanket bog, numerous lakes and enjoy panoramic views of Counties Monaghan, Tyrone and Fermanagh.

The 21 km walk is graded as moderately difficult. The route will be guided by Knockatallon Ramblers. This is not a timed event, so organisers are keen to encourage entrants to set their own goal and enjoy the scenery!

There will be refreshments served at the half way point and a delicious, hot buffet provided afterwards in the SliabhBeagh Hotel.

Challenge 21 is proudly sponsored by ABBOTT and supported by Knockatallon Ramblers.
