Dundalk sees annual decrease in Live Register figures
Live Register figures released today show an annual decrease in the number signing on in Dundalk.
4,358 people were on the Live Register in Dundalk in July 2018. This is a decrease of 665 or 13.2% on the year before.
It also shows however, a slight increase on the June 2018. In June 2018 there were 4,235 signing on in Dundalk, 2.9% lower than July 2018.
The State as a whole saw a 14.6% annual decrease in the number signing on the Live Register, indicating that perhaps Dundalk is slightly under performing compared to the State as a whole.
Ardee has seen a larger annual decrease in the number signing on. 297 fewer people are signing on the Live Register than the same period in 2017. This represents a 22.9% decrease on last year.
Similar to Dundalk however, Ardee has also seen a small monthly increase in the Live Register. 26 more people were signing on in Ardee in July 2018 than June 2018 - a 2.7% increase.
It is important however to note that the Live Register includes part-time workers (those who work up to three days a week), seasonal and casual workers entitled to Jobseeker’s Benefit or Jobseeker’s Allowance.
It does not therefore give a complete picture of unemployment, but it can give some useful insights to unemployment in the area.
