Garda Tony Golden to receive highest bravery award

Garda Tony Golden, who was shot dead in Omeath in October 2015, is to be awarded the highest honour for bravery on Friday.

Garda Golden was killed as he defended a young woman, Siobhan Phillips, after she had been attacked by her partner, Adrian Crevan Mackin.

Seven gardai in all will receive the Scott gold medal for bravery at a ceremony at the Garda College in Templemore on Friday.
