Traffic came to a standstill in Dundalk this afternoon as fuel protesters took their convoy through the town to a gathered crowd of hundreds at Market Square.
Roads were blocked off by Gardai as the convoy of lorries and tractors snaked its way from the Newry Bridge all the way up Clanbrassil Street.
A number of people addressed the gathered crowd including independent Ireland candidate Ryan McKeown who struck a deviant tone, saying:”We’re not going anywhere.”
He further said that protesters intended to continue their demonstrations locally. Recent days have seen a number of motorway exits blockade around Dundalk with rolling slow convoys also causing disruption.
Local minibus company owner Shane Bowhan told the crowd that his business had become unviable after recent increases and vowed to keep protesting until their demands were met.
