Dundalk's Market Square. Latest figures reveal a jump in road and traffic offences at Dundalk Garda Station
Latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) have revealed there was a significant increase in the number of road and traffic offences recorded at Dundalk Garda Station last year compared to the year before.
The CSO release, Recorded Crime Q4 2025, shows that there was 412 road and traffic offences recorded in Dundalk in 2025, up from 360 in 2024 and representing an increase of 14.4%.
It is up even more significantly on 2023 when 288 road and traffic offences were recorded at Dundalk Garda Station, representing an increase of 43.1%.
There was an increase in a number of other types of offences recorded in 2025 in Dundalk compared to 2024, including a 24.5% increase in the number of attempts/threats to murder, assaults, harassments and related offences recorded at Dundalk Garda Station, with 290 incidents recorded in 2025 compared to 233 in 2024.
The number of incidents of Dangerous or negligent acts recorded in Dundalk also increased, with 190 offences recorded in 2025, compared to 156 in 2024, representing an increase of 21.8%.

There was also a significant increase in the number of weapons and explosives offences recorded in Dundalk last year, with 51 incidents recorded, representing a 50% increase on 2024.
2025 also saw a fall however, in the number of incidents recorded in Dundalk in a number of offence groups. The number of incidents of robbery, extortion and hijacking offences fell from 25 in 2024 to 17 in 2025 representing a fall of 32%. It is also down on 2023 when 30 incidents were recorded at Dundalk Garda Station.
Controlled drug offences also fell in Dundalk last year, with 219 offences recorded, down from 282 in 2024, representing a fall of 22.3%.
The number of burglary and related offences recorded at Dundalk Garda Station also fell last year, with 96 incidents recorded, down from 122 in 2024, representing a fall of 21.3%.
Nationally, the number of recorded crime incidents fell across most offence groups in 2025 compared with 2024. The most significant of these were Homicide & Related offences, down 25%, Kidnapping & Related offences down 21%, Burglary & Related offences down 13%, and Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences down 11%.
Recorded crime incidents rose for some offence groups in 2025 with the largest rate of increase being for Weapons & Explosives offences, which rose by 6%
The number of recorded crime incidents fell across all Garda Regions for 5 of the 16 offence groups between 2024 and 2025. These were Homicide & Related offences, Robbery, Extortion & Hijacking offences, Sexual offences, Theft & Related offences, and Damage to Property & to the Environment.
The number of victims of crime incidents of Attempts/Threats to Murder, Assaults, Harassments & Related offences fell by 2% to 5,872 in Q4 2025 compared with Q4 2024. The number of male victims fell by 1% to 3,543 while the number of female victims fell by 4% to 2,329 in Q4 2025.
